Richmond Hill Piano Lesson: A Heartwarming Final Goodbye

I’ve been teaching piano in Richmond Hill, Canada for over 20 years.
But today, for the very first time, I cried because of a student.

She just graduated from Grade 12, finishing high school, and today was her very last lesson with me.

I had been teaching her for more than four years…
and that moment was filled with so much happiness.

Her passion for piano was boundless, lighting up every lesson.

She wasn’t even a music major, yet she was always so diligent, always giving her best.
There were thrilling moments when her passionate energy flowed into me,
and our lessons went by so quickly without noticing the time.

Before I knew it, she got accepted into university.
At our very last lesson, we hugged each other tightly and cried.

Our final piece together was Schumann’s deeply emotional Träumerei.

Her mother came in and told me how grateful she was,
saying she would never forget this,
and that she was thankful I had taught her daughter so well.

My student gave me a warm handwritten letter and a precious gift.
And I, in return, gave her a pianist Yunchan Lim CD and an envelope with $100 as a small gift of support.

Sharing emotions through music—
to me, that is such a beautiful and precious thing.
I feel so grateful, and my heart is truly warm tonight.
